For the past eleven years, the Richmond Metropolitan Region has generously supported our Empty Plate Campaign. The Campaign, which ends on December 31, 2014, generates funds to fill the “empty plates” of older adults with meals, rides, home care, medications, information, volunteer support and other opportunities. The Campaign also provides the opportunity to recognize community leaders who improve the quality of life for older adults. We are pleased to recognize the recipients of this year’s awards. Mrs. Gloria Johnson, Secretary of the Board of Directors for Senior Connections was honored with the Community Service Award for her volunteer service and numerous contributions to older adults and people of all ages. Mrs. Sherry Peterson was selected for the second Phoebe and Frank Hall Award for Humanitarian Service to Vintage Virginians.
We are grateful that we will be continuing our Empty Plate Campaign in in 2015 with a luncheon on October 7 at Trinity Family Life Center and the creation of a long term endowment fund to ensure the future of vital programs for future seniors.
Thanks to all of the supporters of our 2014 Empty Plate Campaign. This successful effort culminated with a luncheon and awards ceremony. Program sponsors were Bon Secours Richmond Health System, CareMore Senior Health Care Center and M.H. West & Co., Inc. Presenting sponsors were Trinity Family Life Center, Dominion Virginia Power and Genworth Financial. We are indeed thankful to all sponsors, donors, steering committee members, table captains, award recipients and partners who contributed to the success of this year’s effort. As a result of the Community’s generosity, we are able to serve more senior adults and their families. These services will enable them to remain in their homes and communities with greater independence and needed supports.
We are still accepting contributions to fill more “empty plates” for needy seniors. Contributions may be made on our Website or sent to us at 24 East Cary Street, Richmond, VA 23219. We appreciate your consideration of a year end gift to Senior Connections. Best wishes are extended for the holiday season and a glorious year in 2014. Again, thanks for filling “empty plates” and warming hearts!
