This has been another summer of high temperatures.  We have all been impacted by the recent hot weather and stormy days.   We know all too well that many of our older citizens are adversely impacted by extreme temperatures due to lack of adequate cooling equipment in their homes.  We are very grateful to Dominion (Virginia Power) for generously funding the Fan Care Cooling Assistance Program again this year to the benefit of hundreds of local seniors.  The Fan Care Program is managed by the new Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services.  Dominion provides the funding which is distributed to purchase fans and air conditioners for needy seniors.  Fan Care continues to be an initiative that helps address the critical needs of our community seniors.  Fan Care allows us to assist seniors who have chronic health conditions that make them particularly vulnerable to extreme heat.  We are also able to give information to help them cope with extreme temperatures.  We can all check on the well being of our older family members, friends and neighbors.  We can also offer them assistance in coping with the heat of summer and the cold of winter.  Please join us in encouraging and supporting our older family members, friends and neighbors who may need special assistance due to adverse weather conditions.  Also, please join us in extending special thanks to Dominion and the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services for continuing the Fan Care Cooling Assistance Program
for 22 successful years.
